Villa Park finished the regular season with a easy win over short handed Players; Haris Imtiaz (50 runs & 1 wkt) named MOM |
By Furqan Qureshi On the verge of playoffs, Villa Park CC played their last group game against 2007 day tournament champions ‘Player’. Villa Park won the toss and since the Players were short of 3 players, Villa Park decided to take advantage of less fielders on the field. Fawad Agha (24) and Arif Hockla (0) started the innings. Arif was gone on the first ball he faced by Umair Feroz (2). Haris Imtiaz (50) came in started showing some fire works by hitting some excellent boundaries. Next batsmen to depart was Fawad who gave an easy catch to Shamim Kamal (1) off his own bowling. Skipper Uzair Ali (0) came in to help built another partnership, but Umair had some other plans for Uzair. Uzair was clean bowled by Umair, which brought the little champ Hassan Bakhshi (37) on the crease. Hassan and Haris built the partnership by taking singles and doubles and some occasional boundaries. Haris reached his 50 in style, but was bowled on the very next ball. With Noyem Nasir (10) and Navaid Ali (5*) Villa Park reached a respectable total of 157 in 20 overs (reduced over game because of Ramadan). Players started their batting with Syed Uddin (1) and Joel Lecce (14), who were facing the thunderbolts of Ahmad Bakhshi (2) and Haris Imtiaz (1). Haris gave the first breakthrough when the Syed Uddin’s stumps were ripped out of the ground by Haris. Shamim Kamal (1) was cleaned up by Ahmad Bakhshi, who also got rid of Joel Lecce in the next over. Now with 3 players back in pavilion and skipper Saddiq Iqbal took charge along with Adnan Afzal who tried their best to face the vicious Villa Park attack, but they couldn’t bear Arif Hockla’s (2) spell of 2 overs. Players were all out for 58 runs and Villa Park won the game comfortably by 99 runs. Haris Imtiaz was unanimously announced Man of the Match for his exquisite batting and venomous bowling. |
