GALAXY UNITED Crowned ACC Champions 2010 |
Galaxy Untied ascended the ACC 2010 throne and the coronation took place at the Camera Park, Glendale Heights, when they rode high, mighty and handsome while demolishing the Windy City by 49 runs in the American Cricket Conference Championship Game. Galaxy, Batting first after losing the toss and put into bat, the openers Asif Ali and Safder Syed started handsome with Asif (20 4x2, 6x1) aggressive on both the open bowlers punching Qasim Khan, straight over the bowlers head for four and then smashing Hashim Raza over the point for a Six. He was caught brilliantly at point by Vishan of Qasim. With winds at 20 MPH playing a major factor and in favor of Windy City, Galaxy lost 2 quick wickets of Naser and Ankit and was struggling at 69/4 in 15 overs at break. Safder (19, 4x1) lost the cool and was out trying to accelerate the run rate. Meezan Choudhury (21, 4x2) and Shakeeb Ejaz were focus to play safe, running the singles hard. Meezan showed excellent calm composure and felt no pressure piercing the gaps, but was out cleaned bowled by a faster one from Cyrus. Zafar managed to score 9 runs at ease but fell to Cyrus from another faster one. Kashif Zaheer (29*, 4x2) Joined Shakeeb (34*) and they had 8 overs to get Galaxy a decent defendable score. The pair batted most sensibly and was running the singles and doubles hard and an occasional boundary breaking the pattern in difficult batting conditions. The runs came at a steady pace in every over eventually setting a total 159 in 30 overs. The duo added unbeaten 80 runs in the last 8 overs with only 2 boundaries. Windy City started the chase with the slugger Kashif Butt (40, 4x2, 6x4) and the experienced Taha Baggia; Kashif was severe on the two new ball bowlers Naser and Kashif to set a scorching pace for the innings. Kashif danced about the crease, hitting sixes as if there was no tomorrow, but was trapped plumb in front of the wickets to a ball that kept low from Mukaram (5.0.19.2). In the event, while the first five overs saw 4 sixes, all by Kashif, the next 17 had none as Windy City crumbled after a promising start. Galaxy's captain, shrewd as ever, brought on Safder for the next over and the tall fellow obliged by getting rid of the veteran Taha clean bowled with a brilliant in swinger, and then in the next over Mukram had Cyrus caught behind by Ankit from an absolute beauty. The three wickets turned the game around and the Galaxy Untied then cut through the line-up that appeared clueless against the spin of Altaf (6.1 .15.3) and swing bowling from Safder (6.1.19.3) as wickets fell at regular intervals. Safder bowled exceptionally superb grabbing the price wickets of the inform Harun Ajmeri and the Windy City captain Qasim Khan both caught behind the wicket by Ankit. Altaf managed to get rid of Danish, Vishan and then clean bowling Chintan. The Hallmark of the game was the excellent and teasing run out of Hashim by Asif with a direct hit from short extra cover, Hashim, who was dancing out of the crease after punching the ball straight to Asif provoking the fielder but had no clue that he was out of the crease. He should be ashamed as he behaved childish and irresponsible when his team needed him the most. Ankith was brilliant behind the stump grabbing every opportunity with 4 priced catches. Quite fittingly, Shakeeb delivered the decisive blows with an out swinger to Shoeb who nicked it behind the stumps and Ankit produced a stunning diving one handed catch in the 22 over, to set off the celebrations. Man of the Match: Safder Syed MVP Play Offs: Altaf Khadry Team Galaxy sincerely thanks all the fans, families, sponsors and well wishers for their passionate support. Let the whistling continue...
