Syed Hussani's valiant effort pushed Villa Park to another last ball loss |
Villa Park CC faced Deccan Blues for the first time ever on GH2 field. VPCC won the toss and elected to bat first with Imtiaz brothers opening the account. Both openers showed their epoch understanding and dealt with some fine swing bowling from Nafees Ahmed (0) and Syed Asghar (2). First one to go was Haris (24) when he tried played across the line to a ball that kept a little low. Zeyad Imtiaz (30) once again threw his wicket away to M. Hafeez (3) after he bowled 7 wides in the over. Hassan (44) held the batting together with some fine stroke play, but wickets kept tumbling at the other end. There was a stage in the game when VPCC was sitting comfortable with over 150 runs on the board and more than 6 overs to go but middle order struggled miserably against Deccans spin attack. VPCC managed to pile 174 in allotted 30 overs, thanks to some late hitting from ever-reliable Shoaib Khan (13*). Pace attack of M. Ahmed (1) and A. Bakhshi (1), who are having a flat season so far, once again failed to penetrate the experienced and very capable batting line-up of D. Blues. Second-string bowling was also failed to cause real threat, as chips were down Zeyad Imtiaz (1) looked to bring back VPCC with his legendary off breaks, but even he failed to pick-up wickets consistently. With all the good thing happening for Deccan Blues, event then VPCCs team resilience brought them back in the game, which Shoaib (2) steeping up to the plate by taking 2 quick wickets. In the closing session VPCC looked to snatch an unlikely victory by drying up the boundaries but Syed Hussani (32*) refused to give-up and brought all his experience in play. With Nafees (7*), he took his chances in running between the wickets and had a difficult catch put down by ever-reliable Zeyad. Game came down to the wire when D. Blues needed 12 runs off 7 balls but S. Hussani dispatched H. Bakhshis last ball for square leg boundary to make 8 off 6. VPCC once again could not succeed in the pressure situation and Deccan Blues got to the target on the very last ball. It was the heart breaker for VPCC players, who could not seemed redeemed the season that began with tremendous expectation. Stay tuned for video highlights! |
