|Villa Park broke the trend, won the fisrt ever season opener against Naperville Chargers; Haris Imtiaz (53 runs & 1 wkt) named MOM|
On the second day of May 2010, Villa Park played their season opener against Naperville Chargers. Naperville Chargers won the toss and elected to filed first. Mujtaba Baqir and Zeyad Imtiaz open the batting. Zeyad Imtiaz who was the best batsman of 2009 tournament, couldn’t find his touch and got out cheaply by Himank Shastri (1) on 11 when the team score was only 33. Mujtaba Baqir on the other hand played sensibly and was joined by Hassan Bakhshi who only scored 9 and was bowled by Arbaz Sheik (2). Next man to come in was Fawad Agha who as usual built his inning with singles and doubles, and then later on scored some exquisite boundaries (3 fours and 1 six). After the dismissal of Mujtaba Baqir, the ever dangerous Haris Imtiaz came into bat. Haris Imtiaz scored an exquisite 53 on 40 balls (3 fours and 2 sixes). Fawad and Haris’s partnership took the score from 85/3 to 146/4. Fawad Agha was the next man to depart, Sai (2) took his wicket when he was batting on 35. Uzair Ali the skipper came in and started trashing Naperville’s bowling. He scored quickly but had to be retired hurt after an inside edge of his bat and hit his knee cap. Arsalan Ali came in but that didn’t stop the run flow a he showed his intentions right away when he blasted 2 quick boundaries. Haris Imtiaz was out when the score was 195/5 by Arbaz Sheik (2). That bought the Hassan Baqir (1), and both of these batsman took the score to 220/6 when Arsalan Ali scored 21 lost his wicket to Aravind (1). With the last over still left, injured Uzair Ali goes back to bat and thrashed some quick boundaries. Furqan Qureshi (1*) joined Uzair Ali, was not out on 22 and took the VPCC total to respectable 231 in 30 overs.
Villa Park took the field with their heads up high and confident behind their back. Haris Imtiaz (1) opened the bowling spell with Ahmed Bakhshi (2), both bowled with furious pace and did not let Naperville Chargers get away with anything. Ahmed struck in his second over when Kailas Sawant was caught by Furqan Qureshi at point. Next to go was Shahzad Syed by Hassan Baskhshi’s (1) short but lethal spell. Haris, in the meantime, got rid of Samin Abbasi by a marvelous caught and bowled. Fawad Agha showed Naperville Chargers some thunderbolts and took the wicket of Kashif Ahsan (he broke the bail into 2 pieces). Naperville Chargers at this point were way below run rate and gave up the game. Zeyad Imtiaz (2) and Hassan Baqir (2) finished the tail. Naperville Chargers lost the game by 128 runs.
Haris Imtiaz was declared man of the match for his awesome performance with the bat and the ball.
